Where else can you hoot, whistle, and bust a gut laughing?" --NYTheatre.com PINCHBOTTOM'S DRINKING PROBLEM A burlesque intervention Pinchbottom hosts NASTY CANASTA & JONNY PORKPIE just haven't been the same lately... they seem to have lost that ol' stumble in their step, that slur in their speech, that oh-so-charming glazed-over look in their eyes. What could the matter be? Is some essential element missing from their lives? Some of their closest friends -- ANITA COOKIE, BAMBI THE MERMAID, CLAMS CASINO, HARVEST MOON, NAUGHTIA NICE, NELSON LUGO, ROSE WOOD, SCOTTY THE BLUE BUNNY, TIGGER, and VERONIKA SWEET -- think they've found the culprit: alcohol. Or, rather, lack thereof. Yes, Nasty and Jonny are on the wagon, much to everyone's chagrin. Pinchbottom had this to say: "By not drinking, Nasty and Jonny insult not only their friends, but also America, literature, and history itself. It was Winston Churchill who once claimed, 'I have taken more out of alcohol than alcohol has taken out of me.' And Earnest Hemingway said, 'I have drunk since I was fifteen and few things have given me more pleasure.' Do Nasty and Jonny think they're better than Churchill and Hemingway?" But it will take more than inane comparisons and quotes mined from Bartleby.com to convince Nasty and Jonny to stop teetotaling. How will this gorgeous gaggle of burlesque and variety stars do it? In the best possible way: by taking off their clothes in a sultry series of anti-temperance temptations, designed to catch the attention of even the soberest of judges. And if the hosts aren't drunk by the end of the night, the rest of the theater will be; beer & wine are available at the venue, because -- in the immortal words of Alben W. Barkley (one of America's more forgettable Vice Presidents) -- "The best audience is intelligent, well-educated and a little drunk." Pinchbottom produces monthly themed burlesque shows at Collective:Unconscious. Hosts NASTY CANASTA & JONNY PORKPIE should probably not be described at the Lunt-Fontannes of the New York Burlesque scene, although they do perform together with alarming frequency. Their ecdysiastical duets and acclaimed puppet burlesque acts have appeared at The Slipper Room, RiFiFi, Galapagos Artspace, Le Scandal, Show, Southpaw, HERE, Coney Island Burlesque at the Beach, and The New York Burlesque Festival, as well as with Punch!
